Charlie's Program of Engineering

Hi, My name is Charlie.  I'm 14 and in the 9th grade.  I had a rough start in life but could not possibly be in a better place now.   Since my 3 siblings and I were adopted by our Grandparents in 2011,  I have really worked hard to be the best at whatever I set my mind too.
When I was in 6th grade I was invited to take the SAT test with the Center for Talent Development through Northwestern University.  I was living in South Bend, Indiana at the time.   Believe it or not I scored in the top 25% of college students taking the test.   Throughout Middle School, my goal was to achieve a 4.0 GPA,  I reached that goal in 8th grade and again in the first semester of 9th.
The beginning of 9th grade we were living in Moreno Valley, CA and I was attending a Military based high school, RCEA.    While reaching that GPA of 4.0, I took the test to increase my military rank.    I passed the test and went from a Recruit to a Cadet.  I actually got a chance to get a small taste of being able to be a leader of recruits which included my older brother.
It was the Teachers and Captain/Principal from Moreno Valley that nominated me to attend NYLF (National Youth Leadership Forum) this summer at the University of California at Berkley.  It's an 8 day extensive experience in Engineering & Technology along with Leadership.  It's held at one of the top 5 schools in Engineering.  There are other locations, but Berkley is the closest and traveling there would cut down on my transportation costs.
I am hoping to raise enough to pay the tuition for the 8 day program, I have some money saved up and of course my parents will help with what they can.  I believe that this opportunity to attend NYLF will give me a headstart in my college career and beyond.  The tuition includes, lodging and meals while on campus.   It would be about $200 for transportation to/from Berkley.

The enrollment period is open as long as there is room in the program location of my choice.  When I enroll I have to include a deposit of $499 to secure a spot with the balance due prior to the event, which is July 2-9.

Thank you very much for reading my story and God Bless you.
