Hi, my name is Ray and the information below will tell you why we are creating a Go Fund Me page for San Antonio and Texas. Please feel free to share this with all your Social Media contacts.

SAN ANTONIO! A GREAT "WHISPERING GIANT" IS CALLING YOUR NAME!

Much of the life and history of the iconic artistry and sculptures of Peter "Wolf" Toth and his mission to honor all Native American Indian Tribes and other indigenous peoples can be found on his website.

For 50 years since 1971 Peter "Wolf" Toth has created 74 giant "Whispering Giant" sculptures (Nr1 was in a California rock cliff!) across the USA & 2 In Canada honoring the many American Indian Tribes of this Nation and Canada. He also created one in his home country of Hungary honoring an important Hungarian leader, his 73rd "Whispering Giant". Some States have more than one of his sculptures honoring the various American Indian Tribes across this Nation. Texas had only one but no longer. After 40+ years the elements have destroyed it and it no longer exists. In 2009 he met his goal of donating at least one sculpture to all 50 States of this Nation. Some of his “Whispering Giant” sculptures have been appraised at a value of $1 Million-$4 Million. Now he is embarking on a campaign to replace the only sculpture in Texas he created in Texarkana in 1980.

For his 75th Sculpture, he is planning on creating the tallest (at 45 feet!) and best sculpture yet to honor the 3 Tribes residing in Texas, and the large number of American Indian descendants who live among us. He has decided that the proper location for this 75th "Whispering Giant" should be in the Heart of Texas, San Antonio, the Home of the Alamo, our Hispanic Missions and more. For 50 years each of his "Whispering Giant" sculptures have been created at the request of the many Native American Indian Tribes across the Nation, or by City or State leaders. Each of the 74 completed sculptures has been donated by him to those who requested one for their Reservation, City or State. For each of his sculptures, the costs of locating a large candidate log for his sculptures and shipping across the country have been covered by benefactors and patrons who have provided the funding to do so.

He desires to locate and obtain either a large Sequoia or Redwood "snag" out of California that has been downed by lightning or fire and is no longer alive. He has selected those two candidates because they have a longer life expectancy and durability than many other trees. Such a candidate needs to be between 30-45ft in length and 5-12ft in diameter. The photo gives you the viewpoint on what a 30ft x 6ft wide “snag” size looks like being transported! This was the candidate log “snag” for his 40th sculpture in Valdez, Alaska in 1981.

It will require transport from the point of origin through San Antonio on IH-10, to his studio in Florida. There is a plan afoot for a short stop in San Antonio for public viewing and TV coverage of the logs' journey to Florida for sculpting. Once there, it will take him several months to sculpt the "Whispering Giant" for further transport back to San Antonio for installation by him on a base of his choice. Again, major TV coverage is planned for the installation. Transportation for this sculpture-to-be by a heavy-duty logging-type trailer designed to handle logs of that size. A possible location for it has already been located. It is my hope this sculpture will be installed in an indoor location, protected from the elements that over decades, have adversely affected his 74 sculptures. In recent years, since his last sculpture was created and installed in 2009, he has, on occasion, by request of the sculpture owners, donated and repaired or replaced them as needed.

  • The above details explain the need to establish a Go Fund Me page. To accept donations across Texas and the Country to cover the expenses of locating, shipping and installing a new "Whispering Giant" sculpture (and other expenses that might occur) for the State of Texas. As stated above we no longer have one honoring our American Indian Tribes of Texas. We are in the process now of communicating with the various entities in California to locate a Sequoia or Redwood "snag" that meets our requirements for the sculpture. Realizing the restrictions regarding access to and protection of the Sequoia and Redwoods trees we are NOT looking for a live, standing tree. We need a Sequoia or Redwood candidate that has been felled by lightning or damaged by one of the fires in that State in recent years. That has been declared to be "dead" and no longer “living” by the authorities who govern and protect them. Peter has, in the past, used a lightning-struck snag” for one of his sculptures without any problems. Authorities in California have stated that if the fire damage is confined to the tree top and is not too bad, a snag from a downed tree like that could also be used. It is a matter of locating one for our purposes. We want to give one a new "Life" as a "Whispering Giant" sculpture for decades to come in honoring our Native American Indians living in Texas today.

With the above in mind let Us Honor the 3 American Indian Tribes in Texas & Descendants of the 22+ (some say more than that number) Tribes that still live among us.

The estimated projected costs provided by logging companies in California of locating, and shipping of a candidate "snag" log is $50,000-$100,000 (depending on the size and weight of the snag). That is the goal of this Go Fund Me page. As I write, efforts are being made to locate the appropriate "snag" candidate for this sculpture. Texas does NOT now have one, and deserves one. This is a project that every TEXAN should support! Donations of all sizes will be well put to work! So, break into that Piggy Bank to make this come TRUE for TEXAS!
