Medical Relief for Ron Metzger & Family
Donation protected
On October 19th, Ron went in for a cosmetic eye lift on both eyes. 48 hours later complications arose. He was admitted to the Royal Alex emergency department with no function or awareness and was unable to determine where he was or what the year was. We almost lost Ron due to the severe infection that occurred after his surgery. After emergency surgery on his left eye and 9 days spent in the hospital he was transferred to Edson Hospital to continue his recovery. After 3 days in Edson there were more complications and he needed to have an emergency CT scan. Once given the results they determined that he had a blood clot in the brain that caused a major stroke, as well as bleeding of the brain. His condition was serious enough that STARS ambulance was called but it was unavailable and he was rushed by ground ambulance to the UofA on October 29th. After a few days in the ICU and numerous tests, doctors came to the conclusion that he would need an invasive and high risk brain surgery in the next following months. His brain is damaged on the right side from the stroke and he needs the surgery to fix new potentially life threatening complications on the left side. After 16 days in the u of a he was transferred to the Glenrose rehabilitation center where he resides for an undetermined length of time. He is making forward progress in the right direction. At this point it is undetermined just how much permanent damage has occurred. Ron is the sole provider for the family. The family is under immense financial stress. any help with this life changing event would be a blessing to help this family survive. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
