Nurses affected by Hurricane Ida

My community of Lake Charles, LA was decimated. There are so many pieces of our lives to put back together it’s hard to figure out where to start. Being a physician practicing in Lake Charles since 2009 I have had the pleasure of working with many nurses, techs, scrub techs, etc that perform their jobs day in and day out with little to no recognition of their work. They are often overlooked and don’t get near the credit they deserve. I was on call and had to ride out this storm in the hospital with these same colleagues with scared and helpless patients looking to them for guidance. They not only performed their duty with such class they did it all while their families were evacuated and worried sick about them. All this only to find out the next morning that most lost their home. They now continue to do their work at the hospital while cleaning and gutting their houses when they are “off”. They don’t ask for anything but instead are helping others in the community with their cleanup process.
*Update* We are extending this to those affected by Hurricane Ida. Southeast Louisiana will no doubt have the same issues that we had a year ago. Please let’s be generous!
