Our very dear Aunt Margaret was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer earlier this year. This diagnosis came as a complete shock to us all, especially to her children. Some of you know her as a friend and others as the proud owner of Margaret’s Soul Food. One thing that we All can agree on is that she is an extraordinary human being. To know Margaret is to truly love her!
Margaret built her business from the ground up as a young single mother, and in doing so, has been an inspiration to us all. She faced many challenges as an aspiring business owner, but her tenacious spirit would not allow her to quit. She has always remained determined and dedicated to her dreams. Margaret’s hard work and resilience paid off. She has been a pillar in the community for over 20 years, serving delicious soul food throughout the DMV.
No one truly prepares for their loved one to go through a situation like this. She has recently begun chemotherapy in Arlington, which has caused her so much pain and discomfort. It saddens our family to see her endure such pain, but we know she is a fighter. Even through the discomfort of the treatments, she remains hopeful, optimistic, and strong – she is still the Margaret we know and love.
Due to the effects of chemo, and her compromised immune system, she is unable to work fulltime. While she does have access to the cancer center, the cost for this care is very expensive. Margaret’s inability to work, coupled with the cost of care, has caused a financial strain. We are asking for your help to reduce the financial stress of medical and general living expenses, as Margaret battles cancer.
Many community members have been touched by Margaret, through her endless efforts to help others, her dedication to family, and her continued commitment to serving.
