Tanzania Expedition 2026

Hi, my name is Hannah I am 17 years old and a student at Hinchingbrook in Cambridgeshire.
In 2024, I and some other students from my school will travel to Borneo with Camps International to help several remote communities with construction, environmental, conservation and social projects. In doing so, I hope to experience a blend of project work, adventure and cultural immersion. I hope this expedition will have a meaningful and lasting impact on myself and the people and places I visit.
I am taking on this challenge so I can start to make a difference. South-East Asia suffers from significant corruption at the highest levels, preventing people from rising out of the poverty they live in. Children work to assist their families and do not have the opportunity to gain a viable education. Deforestation to make way for palm plantations contributes to global warming and destroys the habitat for many species, including the endangered orangutan. Our expedition will help to create solutions and provide a better future for the communities we visit. We will be helping to; build school and kindergarten facilities (kitchens, classrooms, ablutions), community facilities, bridges, replant forests and clean beaches. We will also get the chance to learn about the difficulties others face and teach some of the children we meet.
There are also so many personal reasons I want to be able to go on this expedition. I have never travelled this far, been away from home for so long or had the opportunity to experience such a different culture. This challenge will bring some incredible experiences that will build my confidence and resilience whilst developing teamwork and leadership skills. I am excited about broadening my understanding of the wider world and the people who live in it. I hope this experience will be a terrific start to my adult life, providing me with confidence and a renewed perspective on life and my place in the World.
To do this, I must raise funds (£4,580.00), which is my responsibility. Fundraising is an integral part of the journey and is as big a challenge as the expedition itself. Over the next two years, I will work hard to generate the funds and reach out to others, such as yourselves, for any help, advice and support. If you can provide any opportunities to help me earn some money or can offer to sponsor me in return for some publicity or my coming to talk to you and your colleagues about my expedition, I would be extremely grateful.
Of course, you will want to know where the money goes. 79% of the funds I raise will be used to benefit the communities I support and cover the cost of getting me there. Camps international invest 38% of the funds into the communities I will be working with; this includes wages and sustainable community, environmental and wildlife conservation projects. 41% goes towards delivering high-quality expeditions, and the remaining 21% is used to sustain the business.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my page and read my story. Any donation, no matter how small, will be most gratefully received.
