My friend Montana, Tyler Watson and their Daughter Norah ♡
This is Montana is just returned from the hospital after surgery, and has begun the long recovery process of fighting to get her body to function normally again.
She found out a couple months ago that she has a cyst that is 10cm in diameter (size of a large grapefruit) putting pressure on her kidney in addition to her stomach, spleen, pancreas and even adrenal gland. This obviously was causing significant problems.
After dealing with increasingly debilitating pain for several weeks she was originally preparing for her scheduled surgery April 9th. Due to the dramatic deterioration of her health she had to be admitted much earlier and have to have a tube inserted up her nose and down into her stomach because she had not eaten in days and she was constantly vomiting. She ended up losing 10 pounds in only a couple days. Fortunately, before anything devolved too far, she was rushed into emergency surgery and has since surgically had the cyst removed. Anyone familiar with how COVID protocols has impacted our health care system, and the processes around surgeries, will be able to appreciate just how serious it had become.
The surgery involved making an incision from her breastbone down the center of her abdomen to her belly button. Her recovery will be exceedingly long and very painful as she rehabilitates her abs and heals all those layers of tissue, in essence, rebuilds her entire core strength.
We need your help!
Montana has had to miss weeks of work already and is now off work indefinitely as she heals. As it was astutely pointed out to me by my much smarter half, Andrea, the path to recovery can be anywhere from 6 to 12 months or even longer. With her background in physical therapy she knows how limited Montana will be. The only comparable my ridiculous male mind can offer is this; think of what a woman goes through with a C-Section. Now extend that incision halfway up her entire body. She is an absolutely warrior and far tougher than me, but this is incredible adversity for anyone in any situation.
In addition to the physical and mental toll this will have on Montana, her family must manage their new circumstances with a toddler. Norah is a wonderful, beautiful, bright, intuitive & happy child but like all toddlers, she is energetic and constantly in motion thereby in need of constant supervision. With COVID restrictions in place, childcare options are even more limited, absurdly cost prohibitive and almost impossible to navigate without some help. Tyler has had to miss a considerable amount work to care for Norah and they have been fortunate to have some help along the way from friends and family but nothing in place right now is a sustainable solution. Rent, groceries and bills can add up at the best of times. Making ends meet with no income in a dual income house with a toddler; it’s not a position any parent wants to be in.
So its with that in mind I put together this GoFundMe for them. It’s my hope that we can manage enough to help them get through the initial months as Montana established the foundation of building back her core strength and works to returning to the hard working independent woman she is.
I/ We know how many people are in a rough spot as a result of this pandemic so if you can help, no matter how much, we truly do appreciate it. Montana and her family are proud, strong, self sufficient people who are much more accustomed to helping those around them than they are to asking for help. Having witnessed firsthand their gratitude for even the smallest gesture, your kindness & generosity would not be misplaced, overlooked or forgotten.
The thing is; these are just really good humans. People that have fought hard to get to where they are and have already experienced a lot of overcoming to this point in their journey. They have never hesitated to help anyone they came across who needed it. I am hoping we can do the same for them. .
If you would like to help but would prefer to donate household items or groceries you can message Lisa McKay, Montana’s incredibly awesome sister, and she will let you know what kinds of household items & groceries they are needing right now. We are also hoping to do a meal train after the surgery is done. So if you're not able to help now, there will be other opportunities in the near future.
Thank you everyone ♡♡
