Funeral Remebrance of Franklin Miranda

My dear friends, we are Eliza and Mauricio. This is our beautiful 6 year old son Franklin. We live in New Jersey but we are originally from El Salvador, Franklin was born in United States.




On December of 2017, he was diagnosed after a few weeks of unexplained headaches and sporadic vomiting. Franklin underwent an MRI scan and was finally diagnosed Pontine Glioma  (DIPG), a very rare and aggressive form of brain cancer found deep inside the brain. Which particularly affects young children. 




DIPG is inoperable and there is no cure.  The only treatment a child can expect is a course of radiotherapy, to help with the symptoms caused by the tumour in the early stages of this devastating disease.  With radiotherapy the prognosis for recovery is less than 1% and life expectancy is 9 months to a year after diagnosis.  




There are no words that can describe the complete and utter shock, grief and helplessness that our family felt when hearing this news.  The sadness of the prognosis of this disease is completely overwhelming  and we cannot imagine life without Franklin. We cannot accept that in our life.




Franklin was immediately put on a course of daily radiotherapy treatments, which ends in early 02/27/2018.  the terrible prognosis of DIPG, he has been so brave and is an inspiration to us all.  Like any family finding themselves in this heartbreaking position, we are praying for a miracle.   




One of the major obstacles to the effective treatment of DIPG is the blood brain barrier, which prevents the free passage of drugs from the bloodstream into the brain. We need your help to pay the rent, electric, gas, other utility bills,” We’ve even paid for bus tickets for me and family to go to hospital, I can’t imagine not being able to be there with Franklin every step of the way. I want to be holding my son as he take his last breathe. I want to have the opportunity to say goodbye. We have no time to work .

Mis queridos amigos, somos Eliza y Mauricio. Este es nuestro hermoso hijo de 6 años, Franklin. Vivimos en Nueva Jersey pero somos originarios de El Salvador, Franklin nació en Estados Unidos.




En diciembre de 2017, fue diagnosticado después de unas semanas de dolores de cabeza inexplicables y vómitos esporádicos. Franklin se sometió a una resonancia magnética y finalmente se le diagnosticó Pontine Glioma (DIPG), una forma muy rara y agresiva de cáncer cerebral que se encuentra en el interior del cerebro. Lo cual afecta particularmente a los niños pequeños.

DIPG no funciona y no hay cura. El único tratamiento que un niño puede esperar es un curso de radioterapia, para ayudar con los síntomas causados por el tumor en las primeras etapas de esta devastadora enfermedad. Con la radioterapia, el pronóstico para la recuperación es inferior al 1% y la esperanza de vida es de 9 meses a un año después del diagnóstico.




No hay palabras que puedan describir la conmoción completa, profunda e indefensa que nuestra familia sintió al escuchar esta noticia. La tristeza del pronóstico de esta enfermedad es completamente abrumadora y no podemos imaginar la vida sin Franklin. No podemos aceptar eso en nuestra vida.

Franklin se sometió inmediatamente a un tratamiento diario con radioterapia, que finaliza a principios del 27/02/2018. el terrible pronóstico de DIPG, ha sido tan valiente y es una inspiración para todos nosotros. Como cualquier familia que se encuentre en esta posición desgarradora, estamos rezando por un milagro.




Uno de los principales obstáculos para el tratamiento eficaz del DIPG es la barrera hematoencefálica, que impide el paso libre de fármacos del torrente sanguíneo al cerebro. Necesitamos su ayuda para pagar el alquiler, electricidad, gas, otras facturas de servicios públicos, "Incluso estamos  pagando pasajes  de autobús para que toda mi familia y yo vayamos al hospital, no me puedo imaginar que no pueda estar allí con Franklin en cada paso del camino. Quiero abrazar a mi hijo mientras respira por última vez. Quiero tener la oportunidad de decir adiós. No tenemos tiempo ni ánimo para trabajar en estos momentos difíciles .
