Help Save Our Home: A Family's Urgent Plea

Hello! I am a single mother with an autistic son. We have lived in our home for more than 20 years, but now, my ex-husband and father of my son is insisting that we sell our house and find a new place to live. As part of divorce proceedings, I was ordered to sell the marital home. Although I believed I would have more time to make arrangements to move, or time to try and gather funds to buy out my ex-husband, he has engaged in further legal proceedings that are resulting in the immediate sale of the property. This forced sale will be financially and emotionally devastating for us.

Since I do not have the funds to buy out his portion of the house, we are being forced to quickly uproot and move within the next few months. This means abruptly packing up all of our belongings, memories, etc., and finding a new place to live before a truck and dumpster arrive, and strangers take over the process of emptying our house.

In addition to the trauma this is causing for us, this forced move is financially unaffordable. Due to the current housing market and the costs associated with closing a sale, storage and moving costs, and other associated costs, the amount of money I will receive after the sale of the house will not allow us to purchase another house. With rent costs at an all-time high, even renting an apartment will cost much more than my current, more affordable monthly mortgage payment!

Although my son is an adult, the conditions associated with his autism do not allow him to work or stay home alone. This impedes my ability to obtain and maintain employment. Although I have received some job leads that will fit our situation, this problem regarding our home is taking up all of my time. Financially, we are in a dire situation. The stress and anxiety of this situation is taking its toll on us emotionally, mentally, and physically. My son is completely devastated at the thought of being forced to move.

We are trying desperately to save our beloved home. Any donations I receive will be used to try to buy out my ex-husband, coming in as a new buyer, or if absolutely necessary to cover the expenses associated with finding a new home and moving/relocating.
