Nyanam Widows Rising Kitchen Garden Fundraising
A recent resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Kisumu, where Nyanam operates, has once again brought food insecurity to the forefront of the widows’ lives. Because of this, Nyanam is providing the widows with food and gardening kits that each include 10 kg of maize, 4 papaya fruit tree seedlings, 4 different types of vegetable seeds, and a 3-day training on how to grow and maintain a garden of their own. In the past, Nyanam offered a similar training program, the Kitchen Garden training, which proved highly successful. Since then, the cohort of widows we support has grown from 115 to 560 widows, most of whom have yet to receive, but would greatly benefit from, the resources and training to cultivate their own kitchen or fruit garden.

We invite you to join us in providing a kit for all 358 widow-led households we support. Our fundraising goal is US $7,500, which combines with a generous donation form a partner to pay for every widows’ sustainable food kit. A donation of US$29 is enough to fund one kit. We are excited to be able to share this gift with the widows to honor the strength and resilience they ceaselessly demonstrate, even amongst the dire effects that the pandemic is having on their lives. Nyanam hopes that this gift can lighten the burden of food insecurity at a challenging time like this.
The first 5 donors to give the amount for:
- 1 kit ($29) will receive a hand signed card from Nyanam
- 2 to 3 kits will receive an original, handmade pouch
- 4 to 6 kits will receive a handmade placemat
- Donations above $200 can choose a gift of Kenyan fabric or another handmade item.
