Triathlon for Jade
Tax deductible
On May 23, 2017, my sister Stacey lost her daughter, Baby Jade Nathan, at 8 months pregnant. My family's entire world shattered in an instant. Lorrie, Annie and I lost a niece, my parents lost a granddaughter, Bryce lost a baby cousin.
In the United States, 1 in every 160 pregnancies after 20 weeks end in loss. Many of these cases are seemingly perfect pregnancies and the mother and family will never know the cause. The doctor will say there was nothing that could have been done. The truth is, not enough is known about why these deaths occur, and how they can be prevented (WaPo Article). Resources exist for bereavement counseling and support groups, but there is limited funding for preventative research, testing and education.
Jade will forever have an impact on my family, and we will always remember and honor her memory. This tragedy is not just my family's loss, but the loss that countless others will never know – the incredible impact she would have had on so many. By sharing our story, volunteering to help other mothers and families, and supporting the right programs, we hope that Jade will have a lasting and positive influence on others in need.
I will be running the NYC Marathon for the first time on November 5, 2017 for Baby Jade. For the 26.2 mile race, my goal is to raise $2,620. Donations will go to the Star Legacy Foundation to provide life-saving research for pregnancy loss prevention, education and awareness. This is an incredible organization that is fully dedicated to helping every pregnancy have a happy ending. All donation are tax-deductible.
Thank you for supporting this mission and the memory of Baby Jade!
Josh
P.S. I’ll be running by 88th Street on 1st Avenue between 11am and noon (depending on my start time). If you want to venture out on race day, some family will be cheering me on – look out for the green balloons!
