NYC Middle School Restorative Room

Greetings, my name is Sara McCall.

I am the Social Emotional Learning Coordinator at IS230, a middle school in Jackson Heights, Queens, NYC. I am entering my 18th year as an educator, and my third year in this position. I am excited about the opportunity I will have to expand my role this coming school year with a space dedicated to community building, restorative, mindfulness, and social-emotional learning practices.

I have the privilege this coming school year to create a Restorative Room for my school community. This will be a safe space where students and staff can come to build community and receive support and healing using restorative justice practices, mindfulness practices, and social-emotional learning support.

My vision for this room is inspired by my passion for healing my school community and beyond using community building, restorative practices, and mindfulness practices. I have personally experienced the power of these practices and I am excited for the opportunity to spread and expand the wealth of the knowledge and wisdom I have acquired both personally and professionally.

Your support will provide the resources, tools, and aesthetics needed to create a space that will be welcoming and liberating for all who enter to connect with others and themselves and to find their voices and their balance.
