NYE Burglary: Help Rivera family rebuild home

Happy New Year! Well… a not-so-happy new year for my family and I.

Hello, my name is Teri and 2 days before the new year, my family and I received the keys for our newly built home. My family and I were beyond excited. Immigrating from the Philippines & working multiple jobs to get by, owning a home was only ever a dream. But in 2021, we did it. From living in a tiny apartment in San Jose to moving to a huge house in Lathrop where we had our own rooms.

On New Years Eve, I received a call from my mom that our house had been broken into & cleaned out. The day before, we had been cleaning & moving our stuff in to prepare for the big move after New Years. In addition, to prepping to celebrate the new year at our new home.

Unfortunately, essential household supplies, towels, trash bags, food & drinks, a new furniture were stolen. Even the new mattresses, that we had just set up, were stolen. The gifts we had received from friends and family were also taken without any remorse. Boxes of clothes were opened & gone through. We wanted to have quality items in our new home, so we saved up and invested on it. Christmas presents such as a custom PC, built by my dad and my sister, was also stolen.

I am not one to ask for help, but seeing how stressed and heartbroken my family has been due to this recent event, I wanted to reach out to my community in hopes to restore what we lost. The funds from this campaign will help replace the items stolen.

My family understands that during this pandemic many wallets are strained. However, we would greatly appreciate any donation to help us finally move into the home that we’ve been yearning for many years.
