Hello, on June 13th Darren fell from a roof, suffering life-threatening injuries. He has multiple compound fractures in his spine; numerous fractures all over his pelvis; a broken left arm; internal bleeding; a hematoma on his bladder; and his aorta (artery to his heart) is damaged. Darren will need surgery and a stent put into his aorta. He cannot sit up or stand and has no feeling in his legs above his knees but can wiggle his toes. Today, Lori was told that he also has a Blunt Cerebrovascular injury. This injury is a non-penetrating injury to the carotid and/or vertebral artery that may cause stroke in trauma patients. Darren is also suffering frequent flashbacks of falling off the roof, requiring a trauma therapist. He is receiving tremendous care at Sonnybrook Hospital in Toronto and will be there for an indeterminate amount of time. Two hours away from his home and family in Warkworth.
I know our hearts are all with Lori, Maeva and Millie, and everyone is sending best thoughts for a speedy recovery to, Darren. I know we all want to help, and the best way we can at this moment is to help alleviate any financial stress so that Darren and Lori can focus on Darren's recovery.
A small business owner, Darren is the main source of income for this beautiful family. The extensive injuries he's sustained will prevent him from operating this business for the foreseeable future. If this isn't enough, they are also navigating the recent Type One Diabetes diagnoses of their precious six year old Millie. While being with Darren at the hospital, Lori is also directing Millie's fragile care remotely. This accident is simply devastating on a number of levels.

I don't have to tell you that Lori and Darren are tremendously loving and giving to their friends, family and community; we all know it, we all feel it and have benefitted from their love and friendship. Lori is constantly jumping into action when it's needed with countless fundraisers and Go Fund Me campaigns. It's our turn to jump into action and give back to the family that does so much for everyone else. Never in a million years would Lori and Darren ask for this type of help, but it's the support they need and the support we can offer now.
They need our help; let us show them the love and support they have shown to so many.
