Labour Party Fellowship

Donation protected
My name is Luis Rivera. I am a rising Senior at The Catholic University of America's (CUA) Honor's Program. I am a Double Major studying both Media Studies, and History. I am also in the process of completing a certificate in Video and Digital Story Telling.

Just recently I have been offered a great opportunity in a fellowship with the Labour Party over in Auckland, New Zealand. Below is an excerpt of the offer:

"Dear Luis,

Thank you for sharing two excellent examples of your work with me. This is what we propose:

We would like you to come over here and spend approx. 50% of your time making films - such as films for politicians, films about the fellowship, films about the ground campaign here.

You would spend the other 50% of your time participating in the fellowship in a more conventional sense - ie doing the same kind of thing as the other fellows.

As stated, we would provide accommodation, basic groceries and fellowship-related travel. I don't know if we could provide any filming equipment though."

I will be the first person within the program who has been offered a position to film short videos and documentaries of the ground campaign that the Labour Party (a sister party of the Democratic Party here in America) does to get people to go out and vote. As mentioned in the earlier email I will be able to meet with politicians both from New Zealand and from around the world. The opportunity that has been offered to me is something that I cannot turn down.

However, the only obstacle standing in the way to fulfilling this fantastic opportunity is getting there. The fellowship only covers travel within Auckland, not to Auckland. Flights to Auckland can run nearly $1900 round-trip.

That is why I have set up this campaign. Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards paying for my flight to get over to New Zealand so that I can spend six weeks working with the New Zealand Labour Party and its many leaders.  I will also use part of the money to purchase some modest camera equipment to bring with me over to New Zealand to film and edit the documentaries. The breakdown of the spending of the funds would be $1500 for the flight and $500 for camera equipment.

Over 340 people have visited this campaign page. If each person who visited just donates $5, then the campaign's goal will be reached...success! It shows that just for the price of a Starbucks coffee, you could make a huge difference in my life by helping me fulfill this opportunity.

The best part about this is that you'll be able to see the work I'm creating with your donation all throughout the six weeks that I am there. I will be filming nearly half of the time I'm there and these videos will be shared with you to show how your funding isn't just helping me get to Auckland, but also playing a massive role in a country's election.

Your donation, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated as this opportunity will really serve as the launch pad for future employment opportunities, even in the fields of film and campaign management. The fellowship will teach me so many new skills such as being part of a ground campaign, how to conduct interviews with politicians and leaders on the world stage, and not to mention the daunting experience of working so far away from home.

Thank you ahead of time for taking the time out to read this, share this, or donate to my campaign to help me seize this unimaginable opportunity.
