FUNDRAISER UPDATE
Thanks to the generosity of numerous individual donors and corporate donors such as Gilead Sciences Inc., PG&E Foundation, and Oakland A's, we surpassed our original goal and will start working with vendors to have new high definition cameras installed, existing cameras upgraded, and improved street lighting installed on Harrison Street by Lincoln Square. We worked with Oakland Police Department to identify the highest crime areas in Oakland Chinatown and have identified the best corners to place the cameras to help capture the criminal activities and criminals. New cameras will be installed in the following corners:
7th & Harrison
10th & Harrison
11th Harrison
10 & Webster
11th & Webster
7th & Franklin
7th & Webster
9th & Webster
Cameras will be upgraded in the following corners:
8th & Harrison
8th & Webster
8th & Franklin
9th & Franklin
Thanks to all of our donors, these added and upgraded cameras and lighting will help ensure that we have a safer Chinatown. We are shooting to have the project completed by the end of 2021. Thank you to all our donors!!!
Why should you donate?
As a linchpin of the Asian Community, Oakland Chinatown’s heritage and success needs to be protected. Recent criminal attacks, including those against our elders and merchants, highlight the safety issues in addition to the COVID-19 pandemic which cause many businesses to remain boarded up or closed.
Where will the funds go?
The Oakland Chinatown Chamber Foundation, on behalf of the Oakland Chinatown community, seeks to raise funding for:
· Security cameras to be added to the existing system to help deter crime and increase merchant and visitor safety ($75,000)
· Community Ambassadors to assist with programs such as multi-lingual community engagement, litter and graffiti abatement and homeless outreach, resulting in improving the quality of life and safety of the neighborhood ($18,000)
· Safety Awareness educational programs for residents and merchants to promote a safe environment and community ($7,000)
Who benefits from your donation?
The diverse and vibrant residents, merchants and visitors of the Oakland Chinatown community
