Oakland High School Arts

Oakland High School serves a diverse population of 1500 students that come from all across Oakland. Students choose to come to Oakland High for our academics, variety of course offerings and our many extracurricular activities and sports. As the principal, as as funding gets cut due to lowering enrollment in the district, I am trying to support our art department and art-loving students.
We have a dynamic arts team that supports and challenges our students to become artists in their own right. In our art classes there is at least one ceramics unit and we hope to offer an entire year of ceramics next year. However our kiln (the oven that is used to fire the clay) has been with us for longer than any of us can remember. Many of the heating coils have been falling off for years and it's just time to get another.
Every student needs to take an arts elective in order to graduate. Help us offer ceramics as one of those options.
