Oakley’s brave battle with severe aplastic anemia
Donation protected
On December 22nd, this family’s world flipped upside down as their 2 year old daughter was diagnosed with a rare, life- threatening blood disorder called Severe Aplastic Anemia, resulting in bone marrow failure. In short, her bone barrow stopped producing enough blood cells, which has left her with dangerously low red/white blood cells and platelets. She has been fighting for her life since by receiving blood and platelet transfusions throughout the week, in addition to multiple medications to fight off any infection. Oakley and her family are in the midst of awaiting genetic testing results to ultimately determine her course of treatment - to either begin with immunosuppression, or to jump right into chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, requiring a 4-6 week hospital stay within the next couple months. This has been an extremely emotional and difficult time for their family, and I imagine there is nothing quite as unbearable as watching your child struggle to get through each day.
If you are in the position to help donate, it would be much appreciated, so that this family can focus on caring for their daughter without the added burden of financial worries. They also welcome well wishes and thoughts through Oakley’s journey.
