Oare Primary School gardens and more
We have four projects that we are actively fundraising for and are already making progress toward:
- Converting the school rear garden into a Rain Garden.
The garden will capture roof water, increase biodiversity and provide space for growing and harvest vegetables to further develop our science and geography curriculum. We have received grant funding, cleared the garden and are now awaiting the garden design so we can start planting!
- Converting the old kitchen into a technology classroom
The new classroom will be set up for science, design and food technology to enhance the children’s learning. There will be access to the new rain garden, to allow for the lessons to use both spaces as well as the produce from the garden. The old kitchen is now almost demolished, so we hope to be able to put in the new kitchen units soon.
- Developing a ‘ quiet garden’ in the main playground.
Thanks to everyone who came on Green Gestures Day and cleared the weeds. We now have an area where the children can sit and read outside. The final touches will be to lay down some bark and install a sun shade and seating.
- Developing spaces to be used for forest school activities and outdoor learning
We have been offered use of some land near the school and plan to make this suitable for children to access so they can move more lessons outdoors and take advantage of the beautiful location our school is in.
