Observatory to the Stars

Hello, my name of Gary Boyle also known as The Backyard Astronomer and I am a freelance astronomy educator and writer. Since moving to the country many years ago and having to leave my observatory behind, it is time to rebuild. I am planning to construct a 24-foot by 12-foot observatory. It will consist of two 12-foot by 12-foot rooms with one being an insulated control room where I take images and have telescope control. The other will house a permanently mounted telescope with a movable roll-off roof. Construction has already begun with the digging of the footings for the cement pillars.
The purpose of this project will help continue my work in astronomy outreach to schools as well as other venues. Along with imaging the cosmos, I plan to broadcast live over the internet, explaining the real-time images and answering questions. Another program will be to search for supernovas – stars that explode in distant galaxies, located millions of light-years away.
I am asking for your financial support to complete this project and further, my outreach goals as well as inspire our younger generation of wonders of the universe and science itself as part of STEM. From the early age of eight, astronomy has been a large part of my life. I love teaching and sharing the wonders of the night with others in any way possible.
The night sky is an awe-inspiring place to view and study.
