Ocean aka ‘Pretty Beach Dog’ has been rescued but

Ocean aka ‘Pretty Beach puppy’ (he’s only 18 months old) has been rescued but now he needs our help.

You can find his story here

On March 21st I spotted him wandering along a beach. He walked into the water and was gazing out to sea. I was immediately worried as we are in Crocodile country I checked the carpark and there were no cars. I realised he was lost. As soon as he saw me he disappeared. This happened again the next day.

Then for 16 days he wasn’t seen again. I knew he was there as food was being taken and I could see his tracks leading to the ocean and back into the dunes but he was terrified and would hide if anyone was near.

Despite a council trap being set he could not be caught. The only way to get him somewhere safe would be to gain the trust of the Pretty Beach dog. After spending a lot of time on the beach, wearing the same clothes, singing the same song, calling the same words, whistling the same tune, leaving my clothes and food and water in the same spots I found my self waiting in the bush for some people to go away while I set the next drop of food. This is where he finally, 16 days later popped his head up again.

On April 6th I was able to secure him, he approached me and I put a leash on him. I will never forget this moment. I felt safe but I was shaking. I couldn’t believe this was finally happening. He was skinny and still incredibly scared. Just to think he wasn’t out there in danger for one more night made my heart so happy ❤️

Ocean had been running scared for at least 18 days and his photo was shared all around Australia. No one has come forward as his owner so we are looking for the perfect foster family.

There is now a list of things that need to immediately happen for this to be possible:
Desexing
Microchipping
Vaccinations
Training: although Ocean wants to trust people he feels under threat with other dogs. He is only around 18 months old so we are confident that he can learn how to be dog friendly with the right training and in a controlled environment to begin with. This is to protect him for when he goes to his forever home. It is expensive but an essential part of his future.

Council have been unable to help with costs. With some help from Animal Welfare Cairns our amazing vet is covering his desexing, vaccinations and microchipping for now but I would love to be able to pay back this debt back to Susan at Mossman Vet who has been so generous to do this. Any additional money will go directly to his ongoing costs. It’s not his fault he is like this but we can help change his life.

You can see in the videos he is a beautiful, gentle soul with children and adults. We just need to teach him some manners.

I have purchased $150 worth of high quality food but we will need more. I have been training him at home with some tips from his amazing vet and look what he can already do after two sessions! Thank you so much to our local refuge Paws and Claws for keeping him somewhere safe and secure for the month.

THIS IS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN FIND OCEAN HIS FUREVER HOME. HE NEEDS THIS HELP FROM US. Please share
