Ocean Globe Race: Skeleton crew: Julia Salinas

My name is Julia Salinas I have an exciting and impactful opportunity that I am fortunate to be a part of. I have recently been selected to join the Skeleton Crew Adventures Sailing Team for the upcoming Ocean Globe Race (OGR). The OGR is an extraordinary sailing competition that captures the spirit of the original 1973 Whitbread Round the World Race and commemorates its 50th anniversary.

The race is a unique endeavor of both team spirit and raw determination, featuring ocean-going GRP production yachts designed before 1988. Without the use of computers, satellites, GPS, or high-tech materials, sailors navigate their route solely through sextants in a race around the globe. This race is more than just a journey; it's an opportunity for ordinary sailors to become extraordinary heroes through their efforts.

While the adventure and competition alone make this opportunity truly special, our team's cause significantly adds to its worth. Skeleton Crew Adventures, by participating in this race, seeks to provide Veterans and first responders living with Post Traumatic Stress a chance to heal at sea. We use research-based methods of adventure therapy to teach them how to live with trauma. Over 27,132 nautical miles have been sailed with 281 Veterans onboard our ship. Most importantly, none of the Veterans who've joined us have committed suicide after being part of our team. This endeavor has proved to be a beacon of hope for many.

I have chosen to volunteer as a crew member for this race, dedicating almost a year without income because the cause and experience resonate deeply with me. This journey aims to bring awareness to our mission, highlight what we're capable of achieving, and galvanize community support.

However, this ambitious mission cannot succeed without the generosity and support of individuals and organizations like yours. I am humbly reaching out to you today, seeking financial assistance to cover travel expenses and sustenance during the port stopovers, including Cape Town, Auckland, and Punta del Este, before finishing back in Southampton in April 2024.

Any contribution, large or small, would make a significant impact on this journey and the many lives that our efforts touch. Your support would not only facilitate this unique adventure but also contribute to a cause that brings healing and hope to those who have selflessly served us.

I am incredibly grateful for your time!
