ODB - Honoring LCpl Joshua S. Ose
Donation protected
Operation Deep Blue is a few weeks from beginning the 220 mile kayak expedition to honor the fallen. This year I paddle for Lance Corporal Joshua Ose. On September 20, 2010, he was shot while conducting combat operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Our unit, 1st Battalion 8th Marines, deployed to support Operation Enduring Freedom. We had recently assumed responsibility for the area of operations. We inherited a virtual shit show; the area was teeming with Taliban and insurgent forces. I think all of us knew we were in for a tough deployment. His platoon was conducting a patrol when they came under intense enemy fire. Josh was shot. Despite all the life saving efforts, he slipped into guardian angel overwatch.
He was 19 years old. Although it seems like yesterday to me, this September 20th will mark the fourteenth anniversary of his passing.
I feel extremely fortunate; in preparation for this expedition, I got to connect with his parents, Sissy and Ross Ose of Hernando, MS. They appreciate when we keep Josh's name alive. Nothing could ever bring Josh back, but we can certainly live our lives to the fullest (and do crazy things - paddling 220 miles) to honor Josh's sacrifice.
All funds raised will pay for part of the expedition and the remainder will go to charities that support the families of our Nation's fallen Service Members, first responders, and law enforcement officers.
Semper Fidelis and Semper Memento!!
