ODC Burying Ground Historic Headstones Repair

Over the weekend of May 22, 2021, we were made aware of an incident that have resulted in damage to at least seven of the oldest headstones at the Old Dutch Church Burying Ground, including Katrina Van Tassel, Andrew Martling, and Frederick Van Wart. An individual was approached after being caught making casting impressions over the headstones with unknown materials that have left the headstones with potentially corrosive residual chemicals and some missing pieces. These are historic red sandstone monuments that are hundreds of years old. We are very sad and disheartened to say the least and we are looking for some help to fund the costly repairs of the headstones. Also, in working with the Sleepy Hollow Police Department, we were advised to install a security system to help prevent future occurrences like this from happening.
