Cancer sucks! Oden was diagnosed with AML.

I have debated on starting a go fund me for a few weeks but here we go. Hi. My name is Ashley. My middle son, Oden, who is 19 was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on November fifth. Oden was feeling sick and couldn’t keep food down for about a month. Sunday November 5, 2023 he came upstairs and said he was ready to go to the ER to get some fluids. Boy oh boy were we in for a shock! The doctor came in with a cancer doctor on FaceTime and that’s when we were told he has AML. They did not have transportation for him available to Atlanta so his dad, Scotty, drove us to Northside Atlanta. We checked in a little after midnight. The first days we were all lost and had many different doctors and nurses and other employees throwing all kinds of information and test names and treatments at us. After the first couple of days things settled down and we started to understand what things were and what they meant. Due to Oden’s chemotherapy treatment he has zero immune system. Therefore we are only allowed one person in his room at a time. Oden has to have a 24/7 caregiver so I had to quit my job. Only allowed one visitor and me no longer working it has put a lot on Scotty. He makes two to three trips a week to bring us what we need. Driving one way it takes him over an hour to get to Atlanta. We still do not have a release date yet but we found out that we live to far away to be released to go home. Thankfully the cancer society is finding us housing close by at no cost. While we are extremely thankful for the housing it doesn’t stop cost of other things that we have to have. I understand the holidays are coming up and things are tough for everyone.
