Odin Had an Accident and Needs Your Help :(

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Odin, and I'm a 10 year old Domestic Shorthair Tabby with plenty of charm and personality! I may have a few extra naps under my fur, but I'm still as lively and curious as ever. I spend most of my days cuddling and hanging out with my dad, acting as the family lookout while perched in my favourite window spots, or playing with my toys and uncle's cat Marshmallow. I'm also a big sucker for Temptations and catnip. The vets say I'm in purrfect health!... that is until I had an accident a couple weeks ago.

Now my dad and I are creating this GoFundMe in hopes that kind people like you can lend us a paw in this difficult time. He will tell you more down below, but before that I wanted to thank you for coming to my 'cat talk' and for considering helping me get back on all fours!

Hi, my name is Taylor, and I'm creating this GoFundMe to raise medical funds for my best friend, Odin. A couple weeks ago, Odin had an accident in the middle of the night. I heard a sudden, loud bang from downstairs, and when I found him, he could not put weight on his left hind leg. Hoping it was a minor injury such as a sprain—I iced the leg and after consulting the emergency vet over the phone, I was told to monitor him for 24 - 48 hours to see if the condition improved on it's own before bringing him in.

After several vet check-ins over the phone and a few days of rest and restricted movement, his conditioned seemed to improve; He was in less pain and able to move his leg more. However, as the swelling went down I noticed there was a hard bump beside his knee and knew a more serious problem was at hand. On October 31st, Odin had underwent x-rays, which required sedation and cost $841.52. I was able to cover this initial cost, but the following results were devastating:

After examining the x-rays the vets discovered that Odin has both a Cruciate Ligament Rupture and a Medial Patella Luxation, meaning Odin's knee ligaments are torn, and his kneecap is dislocated which was the bump I felt prior. The vet told me, in all his years of practice, it was his first time seeing this injury on a cat; it's very rare and more common in dogs. Essentially, it's the same type of injury when an athlete twists their leg and tears their ACL, and it requires surgery to heal properly. Without it, Odin will remain unable to use his leg normally and will develop osteoarthritis in the knee, causing him chronic pain for the rest of his life. Vet exam notes below:

The surgery is estimated to cost $6,283.66, not including any post-op care, medication, and rehabilitation he may need. In the past I’ve always managed to handle Odin’s care on my own, but this time I’m facing financial challenges, as I'm currently unemployed due to layoffs. To make matters worse, time it critical—the vets advised that if Odin doesn’t receive the surgery within the next couple months, scar tissue will begin to form making the knee inoperable.

This whole situation has been incredibly stressful, and I can't help but feel like I've failed him. I never imagined something like this could happen, and it pains me to see Odin unable to enjoy life—running around and playing like he always has. To some, he may be just a cat, but to me, Odin has been by my side through some of the darkest times in my life. From the separation and my fiancée and me, losing my house in the process, the passing of my grandfather after supporting him through a 1.5 year battle with cancer—who was a father to me growing up—to enduring my first layoff, he's always been by my side through it all. He's not just a pet; he's my family. Without him, I honestly don't know if I'd still be here today.

That’s why I’m humbly asking for your help to restore the quality of life he so rightly deserves. Any amount, no matter how small, will go directly toward covering Odin’s surgery and recovery. Even if you can’t donate, I truly appreciate you reading this far and it would mean the world to us if you could share our story to your friends, family and on your social medias. Thank you for considering helping Odin get back on all fours!
