Ofc Isaiah Garcia's severe accident recovery

Donation protected
Greetings, my name is Molly, and I'm a friend of and supervisor to Ofc. Isaiah Garcia, the UTSA police officer, who was off-duty when his personal vehicle (pictured) was hit by an uninsured driver on Tuesday, July 19th, 2022 at about 1pm. This accident was on the overpass from 281 South to 410 West in San Antonio, Texas just after Isaiah left an off-duty job at Community Bible Church where he directed traffic for attendees exiting church.

Isaiah's Honda Civic was stopped in crowded traffic when a woman hit his vehicle at 60-70 miles per hour. There were no charges filed on the woman that caused the accident except a citation for No Insurance. Initially, Isaiah was treated for a left arm that was broken in three places and a minor bleed in his brain. However, on Saturday, July 23rd, the day Isaiah was supposed to be released, he became unresponsive for a time and suddenly developed severe difficulty speaking. A CT scan revealed that the bleeding in the brain had become much more severe and he was rushed into brain surgery. In surgery, a crainectomy was performed, where a piece of Isaiah's skull was removed to relieve pressure from the excessive bleeding and swelling of his brain.

This piece of skull remained off until Monday, August 24th. During the period in between, Isaiah has struggled with basic motor skills such as giving a "thumbs up", being able to speak, recognizing friends and loved ones, and even something as simple as knowing his name. It has been a roller coaster of ups and downs and has been incredibly difficult for Isaiah, his wife Denise, and his parents to endure.

While we're optimistic about his recovery process and what that might look like now that the piece of his skull has been replaced, it will be a long and challenging road to regain the ability to speak and move the way we take for granted daily.

It is unclear what the financial burden will be on Isaiah and Denise to try to get their lives back to where it was before this tragedy, we know it will be expensive. Almost every day for the last 34 days has been spent in the Neuro ICU at University Hospital. Isaiah will begin physical therapy at University Hospital as a live-in patient as soon as he is cleared to do so by his attending physicians.

I hope that you can find it in your hearts to help Isaiah and Denise with anything that you can spare. Isaiah spent five years in the Navy prior to joining the Law Enforcement profession. Isaiah was a jailer at Bexar County for five years before joining the University of Texas Police Department. Isaiah's been the recipient of the Mother's Against Drunk Driving Enforcement Hero Award for our Department for several years as he's passionate about protecting others from the dangers of impaired driving. Isaiah also has been the recipient of the Life Saving Award for recognizing mental health crisis and helping to prevent someone that was actively suicidal from taking their life. His service to the different communities that he has served has been unwavering and humble. Please help him and his wife recover in this time of need.

Financial donations will pay for medical bills, medical equipment and medications, adaptations to his housing that will make it accessible during his recovery, gas money to transport Isaiah and Denise to and from appointments, and gaps in income since Isaiah will be unable to work off-duty employment jobs that they rely on to pay bills. Your generosity will be received with gratitude.

If you can donate blood or blood platelets at University Hospital, this will also be appreciated. We can participate in University Hospital's Inventory Replacement Program while Isaiah is a patient at the hospital since Isaiah was a recipient of a blood transfusion during his initial craniectomy. By proving his Medical Record Number (MRN) 71107442 at the time of donation, Isaiah's account will receive a $25 credit that's applied to the remaining balance after insurance is applied. Please get in touch with me if you have any questions about this option. I've donated once already, and it's a relatively simple process.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [email redacted].
