Officer Rob Douglas needs our help

Here is Rob's story 

 

Rob Douglas is not only a great Police Officer but he is a great man, friend, coworker and Son.

 

Constable Rob Douglas Badge #12447, is 49 years old this November.

He started OPP at the age of 35 and was assigned to Middlesex County. He left for PLT in 2018.  

 

In March 2020 after dealing with constant pain and discomfort for 6 months and doctors sending him away with over-the-counter meds; he was diagnosed with colon cancer.

Unfortunately because of going undiagnosed for so long,  it had already spread to his liver and lungs. 

His detachment has been amazing at driving him to appts although he hated asking for help. This is the kind of person he is. He worries more about others than he does about himself. 

In May 2020 he was told by his Oncologist he had 2 years or less to live.

 

He wasn't going to accept that and he sure as hell wasn't going to give up.

 

He has had 25 rounds of chemo and 5 radiation treatments and unfortunately neither have worked.

He also tried a 2-month experimental clinical trial in Canada which although was promising did not work either.

 

 In September 2021 he was told the cancer has now progressed to his abdomen and he has 1 year left to live.

 

Once again Rob continues to fight!

 

In early September 2021 his family discovered an "outside of the realm of standard care" treatment in Arizona; one that has successfully worked on his type of cancers.

 

As exciting as this is for Rob and his family it comes with a huge cost.  Because it's in Arizona it is not covered by OHIP. 
It's an 8-12 week treatment (possibly more ) so there is also the financial burden of his hotel/ food costs during these weeks.

Rob is a fighter and he won't let cancer beat him!!!

Although I do have permission from Rob to put this together, I just want to say that It did take some heavy convincing.
For anybody that has had a friend or family member fighting cancer it's a feeling of helplessness.
