It is with great sadness that our Hero Officer Toamalama Scanlan passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday October 12, 2021, at Kindred hospital in Paramount, CA.
On September 3, 2016, Toamalama sustained gunshot wounds while responding to an active shooter in the main jail lobby. Since that date, Malama was hospitalized and ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Officer Toamalama Scanlan was the breadwinner of his household, and this tragedy has had a huge emotional and financial impact on his family. Malama is one of the kindest, loving and giving souls you would have ever been blessed to have encountered. He loved family, volunteered in the community, and coached football.
Toamalama began his career with Fresno County Probation on June 29, 1998, before joining the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office on April 10, 2006. Promoted to Correctional Officer IV on August 20, 2012. At the time of his injury, he was assigned to Population Management, and he was a SERT team member.
Toamalama leaves behind his wife, Tepatasi, six children and a granddaughter.
Your support for this Brave Peace officer and his family is greatly appreciated.
