OGCC 'Passage to India' and back....

Donation protected
The Club is busy making preparations for what we hope will be a full season of cricket this summer and we look forward to welcoming members back to King St to make full use of the cricket facilities and clubhouse as soon as possible.

In the meantime, we are launching a fundraising initiative that we hope all members will support from the youngest junior member to the oldest Life member.

Running the club financially during covid has not been easy and you will be aware that the club has missed out on the profits of the Lashings game that was cancelled last summer and is being re-scheduled for 2022. To replace this necessary income we are organising a Walk/Run/Cycle to Pune.

Pune is in India where England play a series of ODI’s against India, starting on 23rd March, some 5,500 miles from Odiham. The plan is that, as a collective group, we walk, run or cycle there in time for the first game and then back again in time for the first league cricket match on Sat 7th May.

It sounds like a long way but between us all, it should be very achievable, it will get us fit for the summer and keep us busy during lockdown. It is also an initiative that allows everyone in the club to get involved.

At the same time, we absolutely want everyone to follow the government guidelines to stop the spread of covid so please only do this as part of your daily exercise and do self-isolate if required.

The way it works is we are asking everyone to undertake to raise £25 through sponsorship or as a straight donation. To enable us to monitor our collective progress to the sub-continent, please download the app STRAVA. This is free and very simple. When you open the app, go to “Explore”, go to “Clubs” and type “OGCC” in the search bar, this will pull up our own “club”, specifically for this event then simply tap “Join”. When you go out for your walk/run/cycle just tap the record button on the home page.

It’s as easy as that ! You will then be able to see our collective progress.

As an added incentive, for the junior member who raises the most money, the club is offering a brand new handmade Chase cricket bat.

Thanks very much for your support and best wishes to everyone to stay healthy.
