Race Accident - Ohio Based Jockey Yarmarie Correa

Every Jockeys worst nightmare occurred involving a Three horse spill on Wednesday September 14, 2021 in the Third Race at Thistledown Race Track in Cleveland, Ohio. Yarmarie Correa was on the 1 horse that went down causing Jose Bracho Jr on the 5 and Luis Gonzalez on the 2 horse to go down as well. Yarmarie was knocked unconscious and was taken from the Track by Ambulance to then be Life Flighted Downtown to the Metro Trauma Center. Jose and Luis were also taken by Ambulance to local Hospitals but Thankfully did not sustain any life threatening injuries. Both riders were released from the Hospital badly banged up and very sore.

 

In the evening of September 14th Yarmarie’s first diagnosis while awaiting on the other scans was found to have a pneumothorax which occurs when air leaks into the space between your lung and chest wall. If this air is not released it continues to push on the outside of your lung and can make it collapse. To correct this she under went a procedure where they inserted a chest tube between the ribs to remove the excess air. They also closed a gash above her left eye that she sustained during the accident as well. Later tests revealed that Yarmarie also sustained a broken nose, an orbital fracture (the bone directly below her left eye) and multiple rib fractures.

 

On September 17th Yarmarie underwent surgery to repair her fractured ribs. She is in Good Spirits and Thankful for all of those whom have reached out to her personally in messages, in person and for all the Prayers and Well Wishes. She now begins the road to recovery and will not be able to ride for some time which is why this donation page was created to help defray medical expenses etc.
