Ohio Mushroom DNA Lab

Hello, my name is Kyle Canan. I’m an amateur mycologist focusing on DNA barcoding/sequencing of mushrooms collected in Ohio and other states. Most of you reading this probably already know me and what my project is about. I have a huge interest and passion for identifying and comparing ITS barcodes from sequenced mushrooms. I’m going to be sequencing as many mushrooms as possible over the next 5-10 years. Some will be my collections but most will be anyone who sends me mushrooms, especially mushrooms found in Ohio. My goal is to generate somewhere in the 10K-50K range of DNA-attached data on iNat observations and Genbank accessions. I'm currently needing a fluorometer and reagents for my Nanopore sequencing protocol. Collect, Sequence, Repeat. All proceeds raised will go directly into my lab fees and costs. Reagents and flow cells are the big costs, followed by consumables like tips. I will and do appreciate everyone's support always. I have always been attracted to grassroots movements, and this is my opportunity to do just that. I will close this in December regardless of the amount raised. I also sell shirts and hats and those funds also supply the lab. I'm 100% a grassroots movement and self-funded.
