Open Hearts for Orphans and Widows

Donation protected
We are helping Open Hearts for Orphans and Widows (OHOW), a Ministry and Orphanage located in a small East African village in Bugiri, Uganda. The orphanage is under the care of Katabalwa (David) Noe, founder and director of this Ministry.

The orphanage supports and nurtures 20 children aged 4 to 15 years as well as 5 widows. With your donations, David can continue to provide these deserving children with a loving home where they can sleep, eat, learn, and live a peaceful life.
Your donations will help pay for:
- food to eat
- cooking fuel
- fresh water (no well is available)
- school supplies
- utilities
- essential medical expenses as necessary

We need the funding as an ongoing basis--for example a 10 dollar donation can feed as many as 5 kids per day. Our goal is to provide $2000 per month to allow the orphanage to run without a feeling of scarcity, providing an environment for learning and living a Christ centered home.

The donations are being collected by Steven Sutankayo and then transferred to Katabalwa David Noe as they are received. This allows us to collect money from all countries through credit card payment and then transfer the funds through the WorldRemit money transfer service.

For anyone that would like a testimonial to the authenticity of our fundraising, please contact us for more information. David works very hard for the health and welfare of the wards of the Orphanage, and deserves our faith and trust in his efforts.

Open Heart for Orphans and Widows is a call to rally around the “Great Commission”. We call believers into action by this reminder: “The Commission is Still Great” (Matt. 28:19). We envision working globally to advance the kingdom of God through good works to help individuals and communities flourish. (Matt. 5:16). We are a Christian humanitarian organization that aids both in missions awareness and humanitarian relief & development globally.

OHOW is an organisation that primarily focuses on orphan and vulnerable child advocacy, intervention and development in the rural communities of Uganda with headquarters in Bugiri. We do this as an active demonstration of the love and power of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus the Christ. We are compelled by Jesus’s model of ministry in Mark 6:30-44: Jesus first saw the real need of the people, and then was moved by compassion to serve. This is what we work to accomplish using the platform we are given; we desire to help empower whole communities starting with the young and most vulnerable, and we understand that this task may take different forms depending on the community; therefore, we are committed to serve in whatever capacity we can to accomplish this. Jesus commanded us as disciples to let our light shine before men in such a way that when they see our good works, they will give glory to our Father in heaven.

OHOW primarily partners with local leaders, churches and other ministries in the places in which we work, but we also work independently. We take a holistic approach in addressing physical and spiritual poverty, and work to see people lifted up from their poverty into abundant living in Christ and all He has for them.

The ministry was born due to the overwhelming numbers of orphans, street kids and vulnerable children. Mr. Katabalwa David Noe grew up in Bugiri town village, Uganda, for many years wondering as a homeless child. He narrates that a man named Muchaf would let me sleep in the corridor of his house. He would feed me when he could and he went to school a little bit. He is unsure of his age because his parents died from HIV when he was maybe 5 years old. Homeless, he walked around looking for someone to help him. I know the lord was with me then and at some met a mentor who ran an orphanage called Bugiri Children's centre the founder called, Masingano David, who taught me more about God's plan for humanity. He taught me the bible and I became born again, giving my life to Jesus Christ in 2012. God called me to where I am now, director Of Open Heart For Orphans And Widows in Uganda since January 2013.

By 2013 with help from God, we sat down and started drawing our ideas towards helping the poor little children who were parent less due to unavoidable death occurrences. We surely understood that an orphans are susceptible to trauma or physical torture hence why they are very vulnerable group and are at times denied access to enjoyment of this world by not receiving mental, physical, social and spiritual developments. This can also lead to a feeling of being unwanted even in the community he/she lives.

Our immediate goal is to raise the money necessary to operate the orphanage on a month to month basis ~ $2000 per month. This buys food, pays for shelter, pays for medical treatments, pays for school supplies, and other miscellaneous operating expenses. We need your help with this and are seeking sponsors for each of our Children. $25 per week or $100 per month covers all expenses for a child at the orphanage.

A testimonial from Anissa Zucker:
Katabalawa David Noe came to me two years ago with a dream in his heart.
His dream was to build and expand his orphanage. He is a man of God, he came into this world with a broken family unit, and no place to eat, no place to sleep, no place he could call home. By the grace of God he met a lovely woman who took him in and she took other orphan children as well. Now Katabalwa lives only to serve God. He has two jobs -- one is to drive h
ours from the orphanage to another town to deliver goods, food, and other supplies for people in need. The people in Uganda do not have a welfare system nor do they have no access to an economy that will work and flourish the way Americans do. They count on us to provide donations. The Holy Spirit convicts me of many scammers, I trust the Holy Spirit fully and I trust his guidance the Holy Spirit showed me time and time again to trust this man. He does God’s will so I supported him through monthly donations until the end of 2020 when I lost my job due to Covid. At this time we need you to to help make this man’s dream come to fruition he is a miracle and a blessing in our life. Last year we sent a box of toys clothes and sandals for the children he took pictures of the children with these items and it blessed our hearts... may your gift to him and his children bless your heart too!

Recently we have begun planning a new project, which is to build simple rocket stoves for the orphanage and surrounding community! We in the western world take such things for granted, but unfortunately about half the world's population still cooks over an open fire. Some drawbacks:
- wood is inefficiently burned at low temperature
- smoke contributes to lung disease
- expensive cost of wood
- deforestation
- difficult journeys to get firewood

With a rocket stove, the design allows more of the gases to be burned because of the higher temperature and gasification of the wood fuel. Also, a more user-friendly grill can be mounted on the top making it more like a gas stove!

Continued donations have allowed us to improve the sustainability of the orphanage.  Thanks to some generous donations we recently completed a large project to enable us to move into our own home.

This final project was a septic tank with a budget of $517 USD.

We can now move into our new home, saving us hundreds of dollars in rent costs!

We have also started a small enterprise raising hens for laying eggs ! This allows us to improve nutrition as well as providing an income source for us. We began this chicken egg production business in July 2020 and the Hens have begun laying.
The total initial investment was 394 USD

  - Rebekah, we recently rescued her from being abandoned and has
been in our care since then. She’s growing now and requires bottle feeding.

 - Shahid, suffering from Malaria and Typhoid and thankfully has recovered.
Unfortunately free medical care is not available for our wards, and medical costs need to
come out of our tight budget.

 - Nabale. She is 4 years old. Her parents died from HIV and now we are caring for her.
She’s been at OHOW for 2 years. She’s holding a picture of one of our sponsors, Anissa,
who sent her a care package. She enjoys playing with her new dolls! Thank you Anissa
