Ojibwe Language Revitalization
Donation protected
"I believe in the power of giving. I have devoted my life to the service of Native people and the revitalization of the Ojibwe language and culture. When Ojibwe people learn and live their language and culture it heals and transforms them in positive ways. When non-Ojibwe people learn about our unique worldview, they grow and heal too." —Anton Treuer
Anton Treuer has been at the forefront of efforts to preserve and revitalize the Ojibwe language for the past thirty years. He is author or editor of over twenty books, many of which populate the resources at colleges, universities, and K-12 programs that teach the Ojibwe language. Ojibwe is an endangered language. There are 250,000 Ojibwe people in the United States and another 250,000 in Canada, but there are fewer than 100 fluent first speakers of Ojibwe in the United States and only a few thousand in Canada. Most of the speakers are elders. The development of Ojibwe language books, audio programs, and videos is time sensitive and critical to the growing language revitalization effort. The future vitality of Ojibwe is not certain, but with your help it is certainly possible. All proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to provide transportation for speakers engaged in language projects with Dr. Treuer, equipment essential to production of new resources, and compensating fluent speakers and those involved in providing technical support to resource production. Your donation can make a big difference in this important effort. Thank you for seeing the importance of Ojibwe language revitalization and for making it possible. You are deeply appreciated.
