Sigulu Island, located on Lake Victoria in Uganda, is home to approximately 25,000 people, primarily fishermen and farmers. Despite its natural beauty, the island faces severe challenges, including poor housing, inadequate healthcare, and environmental degradation.

OISF’s vision is to Create Autonomous Green Ecovillages in Africa, starting with Sigulu Island. We focus on introducing sustainable living cycles that enhance the quality of life for island communities through a holistic approach.

Our Mission: Introducing an Autonomous Sustainable Living Cycle Process on Isolated Island Communities, by Implementing Green Ecovillages using a 2-step Independent Foodchain Process. This includes ecological housing, improved stoves, medical aid, clean water, and education, ultimately raising the living standards of island communities across Africa.

The Problem: A Daily Struggle for Survival

In many parts of the world, cooking is a simple task. But on Sigulu Island, it's a struggle for survival. Traditional cooking methods require vast amounts of firewood, leading to deforestation and long hours spent gathering wood. The resulting indoor air pollution is a silent killer, causing respiratory illnesses and eye problems, especially among women and children.

The Solution: The Ojulu Stove

The Ojulu Stove is a modern, energy-efficient solution designed to alleviate these struggles.

Our Goal: €12,000 to Transform Lives on Sigulu Island

We aim to raise €12,000 over this year to support the Ojulu Stove project. These funds will be strategically allocated to maximize our impact on Sigulu Island.

€35 For A Healthier And Happier Family

Imagine empowering 200 families with a simple yet life-changing tool. Each Ojulu Stove costs €35, a small investment that will give a healthier life for a family of 6.

A modest investment with a profound impact.

Initially, our target is to help 200 families on the island by Christmas this year.

In addition to providing the stove, the funds will be used to raise awareness of the islanders.

We plan on focusing our efforts on these activities

Ojulu Stove Manufacturing and Assembling Training Workshop:

Monthly training workshops for women’s self-help groups (SHGs) on Sigulu Island. These workshops will teach women how to manufacture and assemble the stoves, providing them with valuable skills and creating local employment opportunities.
This initiative not only empowers women but also ensures the sustainable production and maintenance of the stoves within the community. As the outcome of the workshop, every woman leaves the workshop with their self-made stove for their family

Advocacy, Awareness, and Distribution:

Assisting and enabling the Sigulu community transition to sustainable living practices. This includes organizing community meetings, distributing informational materials, and enabling the community to become more self-reliant.
Additionally, these funds will cover the logistics of stove distribution across the island, ensuring that the stoves reach the families who need them most.

Stove Production and Materials:

Materials for the stove production have been thoroughly tested and the best option, most durable and affordable materials have been identified, including recycled galvanized thick metal sheet, air intake vents, and other essential components.
This ensures that each stove is built to last, providing long-term smokeless cooking solutions to the families who receive them.
