SeriousFun Children's Network

The brothers of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity at the University of Maryland and the University of Maryland's Women's Volleyball team would like to present you with a special opportunity. This upcoming Fall in conjunction with the UMD Volleyball Team,


we at the Beta Omicron chapter will co-host the second annual ΦΚΤoberfest Volleyball Tournament to benefit our national philanthropy, the SeriousFun Children’s Network. As a nonprofit organization, the mission of SeriousFun is to “create opportunities for children and their families to reach beyond serious illness and discover joy, confidence and a new world of possibilities, always free of charge.” Many of the children who attend SeriousFun camps are currently suffering from life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, muscular dystrophy, and sickle-cell anemia, and the donations raised by this event will help ensure that their summers will be filled with laughs and joy for years to come.


Our brotherhood has a special connection to SeriousFun, as the nonprofit was founded by our brother and late actor, the great Paul Newman.


As men of Phi Kappa Tau, we see it as our duty to uphold the honorable values in our creed by giving back to those less fortunate than us. 

The primary goal of ΦΚΤoberfest is to raise as much money as possible for SeriousFun while still providing an unforgettable event for those who attend. This year we would like to increase our ΦΚΤoberfest fundraising goal to $5,000--an admittedly high but achievable goal. We are extremely optimistic that with the help of YOUR donation, this is a goal that we will meet, if not surpass. This year’s ΦΚΤoberfest will take place on October 25th, 2015 and will be held in the University of Maryland Armory at 3:00 p.m. The tournament will include two brackets, one for fraternities, one for sororities.
