Old Abilene Town Chisholm Trail Museum

Historic Abilene Inc. (Old Abilene Town) : educates and preserves the rich history of the old west, by bringing the pages of the infamous old cow town and the Chisholm Trail to life through reenactments, gunfights, cancan dancers, artisans and entertainment.
Visitors can stroll the boardwalk, just as Wild Bill Hickok did during the wild and wooly days of Abilene. During our annual Chisholm Trail Days celebration, you can see real live longhorns as they are herded through the streets and loaded on the old steam engine. During our open season we feature gunfights, cancan girls and stagecoach rides. You can enjoy a sarsaparilla at the saloon and see the authentic bar from the original Alamo saloon. You can have a day fit for any cowboy lover, young or old.
Historic Abilene Inc. (Old Abilene Town) is a 501 (c) 3 non profit organization and relies on donations and people like you who wish to preserve the history of Abilene and the Chisholm trail. It is an ongoing quest and challenge as we strive to preserve our buildings and contents. As we persist in maintaining, we also wish to give better experiences of the history of the old west.
A Chisholm trail exhibit has been given to Historic Abilene Inc. and we have the building to house it but because of lack of previous funding, the building is in need of a complete overhaul. The Way Station pictured above, had a gaping wall and was missing part of its floor on the west side of the building. In phase one, we were able to rebuild the wall and fix the floor. Next our volunteer crew moved on to stabilizing the rest of the building and installed new siding . We continue with plans for all new electrical, a heating and air unit and last we will complete the inside walls.
The way Station will become the Chisholm Trail Museum and Interpretive Center aka The Trail Center.
As we move into a new way in preserving Old Abilene and the Chisholm Trail, we hope that you will join us with a donation toward rebuilding the Way Station and preserving the important history. Any donation helps and will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
