Helping to care for baby Oliver

Hi my name is Erin and I am now known as Grammie. I am starting this gofundme to try to raise some help and support for my daughter and son-in-law, Paytan and Dakota Martai.

On August 20th they were blessed with a beautiful baby boy. Oliver was born and instantly began his medical journey.

Oliver was born with 3 congenital heart defects. He has single ventricle heart, hypoplastic aorta and transposed vessels. When he was 2 days old he had his first open heart surgery. He came through it like a champ, like a warrior. He has had some breathing issues but is currently in stable condition. His recovery could be as much as 3 months. Oliver will need his 2nd heart surgery at 6 months and his 3rd at 1 year.

This is going to be a difficult year for this new family. Paytan is off work now so it is on Dakota to carry them financially and their bills have gone up so much. Paytan will be staying at the Ronald McDonald house while Dakota goes back home and keeps working. That means things are going to be difficult not only financially but mentally too.

When Oliver is discharged he will have regular appointments at Sick kids hospital in Toronto which is a long commute from Kitchener for a family who dont drive.

I never thought I would take part in a gofundme but I know that if we could take some of the financial stress and strain off them they would be better off mentally too. As a family we can only do so much but as a community of support we can make a difference.

Whatever funds we can raise will be used to assist with their costs while living in Toronto and for travelling back and forth once Oliver is discharged.
