Cowboy Oliver Shultz Covid-19 and MIS-C Fund

Donation protected

Thank you so much for visiting this GoFundMe page for Oliver Shultz.  Read his story below taken from his mom’s Facebook page.  The mounting medical bills, insurance company phone calls while still in ICU to collect payments, and a projection of 6 months to heal Oliver’s heart that was badly damaged by Covid-19 and MIS-C (a rare Covid related virus that attacks children) have left this family with chronic health concerns, financial fears, and a need for community support.

Please consider supporting Oliver as he recovers from Covid and MIS-C.  We thank you so very much for your continued thoughts and prayers for Cowboy Ollie as he recovers over the next 6 months.   All funds raised will go to pay medical expenses and financial support for Ollie.  Let’s get this cowboy back in the saddle!

From Oliver’s mom’s Facebook post:
This is the face of Covid and MIS-C in our 11 year old sweet boy This Virus is not a joke and I hope that perhaps from this post someone will learn about MIS-C, which is only affecting children with Covid, and will save a life. Because from the last week of experience, and I’m not saying anything bad about our health care system bc I love them, but none of the doctors I had pleaded with for the last week knew about MIS-C and disregarded my requests for Ollie to be seen again. The problem with Covid is that we just don’t know enough about it. It’s different for everyone. Be kind to each other, don’t ever say the words “it’s just a flu” or “it doesn’t even do anything badly to kids” bc the hell we have just lived through in this last week and still continuing will be with us for the rest of our lives. Be thankful and grateful that perhaps you’re family and friends can say “Covid wasn’t so bad” because not everyone is that lucky.

Most of you already know, (thanks so much to our birthday Bubba♥️) but in case you do not, Ollie and I are at the ICU at Children’s hospital. His poor little body is battling Covid (for the last 6 days) as well as a very rare and new syndrome, MIS-C, that only affects children with Covid. He is the 9th patient they have treated with this condition.
We almost lost our little guy today, but I’m very happy to report that his body is responding awesomely to the treatment medications for MIS-C and we’re feeling confident he’s gonna pull through! Please keep up the prayers and/or send some good vibes his way. He’s got a bit of a road to recovery. We should know a lot more tomorrow.

And a very very special thank you to our amazing nurses and doctors at Children’s Hospital, our family and friends for the much needed support, and god above for saving our babe

-Love you all! From a very tired but happy and hopeful mama♥️ and one freaking awesome and strong Cowboy Ollie Smalls

Update on our sweet Oliver- 1.7.21 (9 days post onset of Covid and MIS-C symptoms)
We are out of the ICU, into our new comfy room at Childrens, with a view and on the long road to recovery! Very thankful that he’s on the right track, but the next 6 months are lots of family time, no germs, no strenuous activities, lots of heart healthy food, mega hydrating, and working hard on our mental/emotional state. As much as the medications make our happy Ollie feel awfully sad and distant, being isolated indoors for this length of time and being away from Seth and Andy is weighing on both of us. ♥️

This virus and in particular the MIS-C attacked every system of Oliver’s body and as such will have a lot of healing needed. His heart was most greatly affected by it, damaging his 2 bottom chambers. Those are the ones that pump your blood to your body and the other pumps to your lungs. Also damaging a coronary artery. Since this horrific virus is so new and rare the long term plan will probably change often to suit how is body is healing. The cardiologist said he has 6 months to do as much heart healing as he can. ♥️ After that 6 month period whatever damage doesn’t mend will remain. He also has pneumonia in his lungs, that is improving every day. His kidneys and liver are back to work full time now and all of the MIS-C symptoms have stopped, which we’re so thankful for. His Rheumatologist is hoping by tomorrow his labs will show improvement for the whole body inflammation. Unfortunately the medicines he will continue to be on for many weeks/months are not fun and don’t make him feel very well. But he’s one tough cowboy and will pull through.

We’re participating in multiple research projects to help our wonderful medical community learn more about Covid and MIS-C in children so that lots more kiddos lives can be saved.

The love and support is overwhelming and we’d like to thank each of you from the bottom of our hearts. It’s so busy in the hospital that I look forward to someday soon snuggling with Ollie at home and reading all of these messages to him. For those that have sent cards, he loves them! Puts a smile on his face when I tell him how many people are rooting for him! And that’s a smile this mama has missed for too long now. Soooo happy it’s back There’s no known long term effects of this virus (since its new) so please keep Ollie in your prayers. To everyone who have sent Seth and Andy food and offers of help and encouragement, thanks so very very much. We appreciate all of you. ♥️

When I get time to sit down and reflect and go through my 50,000 pages of chicken scratch notes I’ll write up a time line of all symptoms, and all regrets, and everything done correctly, and what we should have done differently in a further effort to help raise awareness and arm parents with the knowledge to get the necessary help at the best time for your babies. We don’t know exactly when we’ll be out of here and back home. But hopefully very soon. ♥️

Lots of love to you all, From a thankful and grateful mama and one freaking awesome and strong cowboy Ollie Smalls
