Olive's long walk to Kenya Fundraiser

" Picture this. You and your family live in a shack on a dump site with no beds, no electricity, no nothing. Just each other. This is not you but it is someone. Many people actually. They can't do anything about it, but I can. WE can.
In the summer of 2024, I will be travelling to Kenya with Tiverton High School. We will be helping to turn an abandoned building into a school so that the children in Kenya can be educated." - Olive Everett-Kelway. Year 9 Student. Tiverton High School
'Our aim is to increase opportunity within education, enabling young people to positively influence their future pathways' - AFRICAN ADVENTURES FOUNDATION
The African Adventures Foundation is a registered charity which provides support to more than 20 different community projects in developing areas of Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar.
In July 2024, Tiverton High School in collaboration with the African Adventures Foundation will be embarking on a summer Expedition to Nakuru, Kenya. The students will be volunteering within local community schooling projects, aiming to provide an education and a future for children in the area who are living in extreme poverty. Tasks range from assisting in the classroom, maintenance and improvement work to the school buildings and helping prepare and serve food at the community drop-in centre. They will also have the chance to carry out home visits to where some of the families live on the Hilton Dump site in Nakuru, distributing aid packages and donations.
Olive has been offered a place on the 2024 Kenya Expedition. The cost to secure a seat on this life-changing trip is £2,500 which the students are actively encouraged to raise through fundraising enterprises of their own creation.
THE CHALLENGE -
Olive will be attempting to walk the South West Coast Path. The 630 mile national trail stretches from Minehead on the North Coast of Somerset to Poole on the South coast of Dorset.
This is an absolute monster of a challenge which is going to require a great deal of time as well as energy. For that reason, it is a challenge which will be chipped away at in sections throughout 2023. We are aiming to try and complete the distance before the year is out (although ultimately the goal is for Olive to complete the trail, so if we need to overrun a little then so be it).
We will be starting from Poole during the February half-term and following the path clockwise from there.
Updates on Olive's progress will be posted on this page as we go, together with reviews and recommendations of any noteworthy campsites, swim spots, ice creams, pasty shops, etc we might discover along the way.
All donations and messages of support for Olive's walk are received with the utmost gratitude. Times are tough and we really do appreciate your kindness.
Thank you xx
