Olive’s Medical Emergency Care
Donation protected
Hello, Family / Friends & Pet Lovers..
I am creating this GoFundMe page to help my son Travis Ward, with an unexpected medical bill..
On September 30th, His fur baby Olive, was stung by a bee on her nose!
He rushed her to the Fairfield animal hospital emergency care in Kelowna.
We now know that she is deathly allergic to bees..
Olive, is my son’s support dog, he is on disability and has very limited funds.
It is almost impossible for anyone to be able to pay such outrageous costs out of pocket in an emergency situation like this.
Olive, is a Havanese / Toy poodle, and she is only 1.5 years old.
She has been with Travis since she was 8 weeks old. Olive, is so full of life, and just the sweetest little thing, weighing only 7lbs.
Olive, went into anaphylactic shock and her organs started shutting down, after a couple hours Olive, seemed to be more stable and they were going to keep her overnight. It was heartbreaking that they wouldn’t allow my son to leave without a $1500 payment, he stated that he didn’t have that kind of money at that time and they told him, “Well you better call family or friends and wake them up”. As he was told this at 10:30 PM.
Olive, overnight developed internal bleeding and took a turn for the worst. The veterinarians called at 12:30 AM and said, we shouldn’t get our hopes up as it didn’t look good and she may not make it through the night. Olive, has been dependent on the medications and medical equipment since she’s been there.
Her kidneys and her little body was majorly damaged by the bee venom, and because Olive, is so tiny it hit her a lot harder then it would’ve a big dog.
As we all anxiously waited on another update, they called at 1:00 PM and said Olive, is stable but could still take a turn, so they decided to keep her for another 24 hours and they would call with an update again at 6:00 PM to reevaluate.
At 3:00PM they called my son demanding another $1000 up front.
In that conversation my son was given the option to place a feeding tube in Olive. We thought in these situations that food / feeding tube was automatically a given. In my opinion that should not even be an option in question.
My son approached me desperately asking to use my credit card so we could pay the $1000 they were asking for, I gave him the go ahead to use it, and only after they received that payment is when they proceeded with giving Olive, her feeding tube.
They didn’t even call us with an update at 6:00PM like they said, My son had to call them himself and they said they were busy but said Olive, is stable at this time. We are still patiently waiting for answers and updates on Olive, in hopes she will continue to fight and recover.
All donations will be helping pay current medical expenses as they come, and will also be using the donations towards Olive’s, recovery after care, as well as looking into preventative measures for the future to avoid any reoccurring emergencies with her allergic reaction to bees.
It is never easy to ask for help when times are tough, so I want to help my son during this difficult time by setting up this GoFundMe.
Please consider donating to help cover Olive’s medical expenses.
Every contribution, no matter how small, will be hugely appreciated. If you are unable to make a donation at this time please help us by sharing our GoFundMe page.
If you feel more comfortable with sending a private donation, please reach out to me.
As soon as my son gets back on his feet we will most definitely be paying it forward to another fur baby here on GoFundMe.
Thank you, we appreciate the support, and will give you updates asap.
