OLIVIA OGUMA & KATE RIGG’s Event for AAPI MONTH
Donation protected
Hello all you fabulous people!
MAY is approaching and it is AAPI Month! As many of you know Kate Siahaan Rigg and myself (Olivia Oguma) have had a long standing writing and creating partnership which has cumulated in our amazing sketch variety show DisOrientalism. We currently has a residency at Joe’s Pub! We have the opportunity to do our next show this May 6th- and we need YOUR HELP! Our show is greatly made possible by sponsors who help to provide the funds to make the show happen—our previous sponsor V (formerly Eve Ensler) was instrumental in helping out last show come to fruition.
Given that the state of tension between our community and others in New York is still very high, and that post pandemic animosity towards Asian people is still very present in terms of street safety, a lack of visibility in politics and culture and the very real discomfort of our peers, we feel like we HAVE to keep moving forward with the mission of uplifting amplifying and connection Asian American Artists to each other and to the community at large.
The funds raised will go to the following
- providing free community tickets to Asian students, artists and community organizations and groups who would otherwise not be able to attend
-procuring our set and costume pieces for all our sketches (anyone who has come before knows it’s full out! Blow up Godzilla! Hello Kitty! Ramen tracksuits! The possibilities are endless!)
-making sure our guest artists and our amazing accompanist are properly compensated
- video filming and live stream for those who cannot attend in person
WE can’t wait to see you at our show May 6th!!
