On Wednesday March 29, our cousin Olivia Hiz was found unresponsive in her Alabama dorm room, Presidential 2 in Presidential Village. Paramedics rushed her to DCH Regional hospital in Tuscaloosa. After many hours of testing, doctors diagnosed her with streptococcal pneumoniae infection, which led to viral encephalitis (severe swelling of the brain). Olivia is currently on life support. Although doctors say they’re “cautiously optimistic” for recovery, the next several weeks, and potentially months, will be critical to the outcome, Olivia is being transported to University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham for the latest technology and treatment. Olivia’s parents, Lisa and John Hiz, have suffered a heartbreaking tragedy and we’re seeking funds to support Olivia’s medical expenses and further rehabilitation.

In 2016, Olivia graduated in June from Mount Sinai High School on Long Island. She cheered for the Mustangs throughout high school and won the 2016 Universal Cheerleaders Association national championship.

Only a few short months after her high school graduation, Olivia started college at the University of Alabama as a Human Environmental Sciences major. She made the Dean’s List for having a GPA higher than 3.5 during her first semester. She spent weekends cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide football team with her friends and working part time whenever she came home for the holidays. She’s a Disney lover and best friends with her dog, Cooper.
Olivia is very close with her family, including her grandparents, Barbara and the late John Rosman;Dr. and Mrs. Ismet Hiz, her aunts and uncles, including Karen and John Rosman; Michael and Kim Rosman; David Rosman and Caroline Bennett; Patricia Springsteed; Kenan and Karen Hiz, Janan and Ron Morris, and Suzan Ertlmeier and her cousins. As a family, we hope that you will help show support in any way that you can. Any contribution is appreciated and means the world to our family. Please share with anyone that you can.
Thank you in advance for your time and support. Roll tide.
