I am a Sophomore at East Carolina University majoring in Flute Performance. I recently transferred from another NC State institution so that I can continue to make progress as a performer.
I have worked very hard to become as good as I am now on my current instrument. My flute is old and lacks some of the keys that are now considered standard. Unfortunately, it cannot be upgraded, as the metal it is made of is too worn to allow repairs, and I urgently need a new flute.
My major professor at ECU School of Music, Dr. Christine Gustafson, has informed me that this flute will not allow me to improve to the point where I can successfully audition for jobs or graduate schools in performance.
With a new instrument that is adequate to current professional standards of pitch, tone quality, and technical function, I will be able to keep up with my performance studies and compete successfully with performance majors from other universities.
I practice for about 3-4 hours daily, and this flute will allow me to develop and meet the requirements set by the ECU School of Music.
My family had promised to help me buy the new flute, but they are no longer in a position to do so.
I am setting up this GoFundMe account to try to help myself, but the results are uncertain.
I also work outside of my university studies and will contribute all I can once rent, insurance and other daily expenses are met.
Any amount is welcome!
