Ollie & Adapt Ability
Ollie is a 4-year-old boy that is a true joy. Ollie loves his three little brothers, music and the outdoors. Ollie was diagnosed in April 2019 at nine months old with Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (ATRT), a rare tumor of the brain and spine. Ollie is still fighting cancer and is in active treatment. Ollie suffers neuropathy (nerve damage) in his feet due to chemotherapy received soon after diagnosis. As a result, Ollie does not have the ability to walk but is an active toddler that navigates his environment by crawling and riding on his little red trike. This year Ollie started Pre-K for the first time and has loved the experience! Ollie uses his trike to move through his classroom and around the rest of the school building. Ollie is now outgrowing his trike and is too big for a similar bike that meets his special needs.
Ollie and Adapt Ability partner up to share with you and the world everything we can about ATRT.
We want every individual with ATRT to have the opportunity to have a quality of life and to enjoy and experience riding a bicycle.
Information about ATRT:
ATRT is an aggressive form of cancer and is difficult to cure. Survival is poor, but treatment advances are being made. Current advances in therapy have helped older children and children with tumors that can be removed entirely have improved survival. The new treatment is being investigated in clinical trials. The goal is to increase the cure rates and improve survival in very young children and children with diseases that cannot be surgically removed.
Ollie's Family and Adapt Ability is raising funds to custom-build an adaptive bicycle to help Ollie feel like any other child.
