Omar Atin Memorial
Donation protected
I am asking for donations to assist with the financial burden of medical and the commemoration of the life of Omar Atin.
After a long battle for his life here on earth, on June 21st, 2023, Omar Atin went peacefully to glory and received his angel wings.
Born October 12, 1979, Omar was a very active child; although he was born with a progressive eye condition called Leber’s Amourosis, which causes limited vision and little to no peripheral vision, he never let his visual impairment stop him. As a young boy, he could regularly be found going on bike rides with his friends and out playing basketball at the local park.
This active participation in life persisted into his adulthood. Omar was passionate about participating in sports, which led him to joining the US Association of Blind Athletes (USABA). It is with this organization that he discovered and began playing goalball, most recently helping his team, the NJ Thunder, win the gold medal in the 2022 National Goalball Championships, Men’s B Division. Omar also played beep baseball for the New Jersey Lightening for several years. (Goalball is the most popular sport created for blind and visually impaired athletes, played in 12 countries around the world. Beep baseball is adaptive baseball for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.)
When not participating in sports, Omar enjoyed reading sci-fi and fantasy novels, listening to 90s Hip-hop, and spending time with his friends. In his professional career, he has held positions with the NJ Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired working with their adaptive technology team, and with Vision Corp closing military contracts.
Omar is survived by his mother Susan Atin, older sister Joy Atin-Shark, various Aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and two brothers from another mother and father. He is proceeded by his father Hernany Atin.
Omar, although we know you are always with us, we love you and will miss you. See you on the other side…
