Heart Surgery for Omeid

OMEID International is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in California. 

We're dedicated to providing Afghanistan’s children of war with safe housing, education, and health care, as well as the love and support they need to build a future of hope and opportunity.


One of our 11 kids, whose name is also Omeid (middle, kneeling in the picture), has been diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis.

This can be fatal if not treated with surgery.

Fortunately, we've found a capable provider and are scheduling the surgery for late September (2015). It will cost $3,000, including post-op care.

We need your help to raise money to get this bright and strong young man the help he needs.

HERE’S a bit more on this wonderful kid:

When Omeid first joined us, he'd been living with an adopted family who forced him to do hard labor all day long.

Despite what he’d been through, he excelled in our program and became known for his athleticism. Recently, he’s even taken first in a local weightlifting tournament.

Unfortunately, a medical check-up in April 2015 showed that the heart condition he was born with had reached an acute stage.

We monitored him for several weeks to see whether his condition would improve, but by June 2015, it had not changed, and surgery was strongly recommended.

Our team has rigorously vetted providers for one who would offer high-quality care at a fair price.

Now that we've found one, Omeid will have his operation at the end of September.

He'll need one to two weeks to recover in the ICU and another three months at home, where he will need to be under special care.

To assure everything runs smoothly, our President/CEO, Shamsia Razaqi Khan, will personally monitor his recovery. She will also work with him to complete a special homeschool curriculum so he doesn't fall behind in his studies.
