On a Mission to Ethiopia

Donation protected
Greetings,

My name is Natural Langdon. I am an award-winning Filmmaker, Youth Advocate, and
Travel and Culture Enthusiast.

I am asking for your financial support to go to Ethiopia, for two weeks in August 2018, for the purpose of working with youth and community based organizations from the city of Addis Ababa to the remote villages of the Omo Valley. Part of my focus will be to help youth develop skills to use the camera as a tool to document the Ethiopian stories from their perspective.

I need to raise $5000 for this project. I am asking you to donate as much as can and include this campaign message on your social media sites and email. Your donation will help to cover expenses related to travel, lodging, supplies and documentation of the project.

I plan to collaborate with theses organizations to create an international mentorship program; and to supply multiple digital cameras to help youth interested in film and video production develop their skills.

Project goals:
(1) Work with youth and community based organizations.
(2) Collaborate with like minded artists.
(3) Use photography and video to transfer knowledge to youth living in underserved communities.
(4) Deepen my understanding of Africa and the African diaspora.

Why Ethiopia?

Ethiopia has many tribes whose ancient customs and traditions have remained almost entirely intact and are not as well known from their own perspective.

According to the Lonely Planet publication Ethiopia is the only African country to escape European colonialism, it has retained much of its cultural and religious identity. The ancients here left behind some extraordinary monuments to faith and power, which serve as focal points for so many wonderful journeys. It's story begins with Lucy, one of the most celebrated ancient ancestors, and echoes of the Queen of Sheba, and then takes on the power and passion of Christianity, with mysterious echoes of Ancient Israel.

About Natural http://naturallangdon.com

I am a Child Assault Prevention Specialist and Youth Counselor. My experience and interactions with young people, who struggle with racial and ethnic discrimination, homophobia and poverty, has had a profound impact on my artistic endeavors and inspired  me to work with International youth and community organizations.

My passion for arts and education has taken me from producing films about urban drama and social injustice in Brownsville, Brooklyn; to teaching youth about film production in under severed communities around the world. My mission is to help people find their voice through film and photography.

I have spent the last twenty years working in different countries with underserved communities in many capacities, from teaching youth digital video production and photography, to mentoring and community activism.

As a travel and culture enthusiast, I am on a mission to reveal the untold stories of urban communities around the world.  By exploring the contributions of people of the African Diaspora, I have discovered untold stories of communities in Cuba, Haiti, Bahia, Brazil, UK, Germany, Morocco, Egypt and Ghana, just to name a few. I have worked with independent recording artist to shoot music videos that bring global awareness to issues  that reflect these communities.

In 2014, I had an opportunity to partner with The Africa Channel to produce “From Brooklyn to Ghana” a documentary chronicling the cultural differences and similarities of urban areas in New York and Ghana. Since then I have traveled to many countries documenting, learning and sharing the experiences using social media to tell the stories of people of the African Diaspora.

My goal as an artist is to highlight the resilience of people of the African Diaspora and have an impact on how mainstream media depicts them.

Thus far, we have been able to focus on the following issues:

Domestic violence and ending violence against women in Ghana
Police brutality against unarmed Afro Brazilians
Illegal deportation of Haitian people from Dominican Republic
Relief efforts from the disaster in Puerto Rico caused by Hurricane Maria
