Hi folks! I'm about to embark on my most ambitious project yet. After years of working as a comedian and content creator, I'm officially producing my first short film. It's an enormous undertaking, but I feel like it's an essential step for me. The script is a heartfelt and hilarious story I need to tell about aging parents and a father's wish to be buried in the backyard.
Things I've made before:
I've made a lot of things before, but this is going to be a short film to play in movie theaters which requires a lot of talented people to do their talents. Here are some links to my previous film work and examples of my writing.
About this movie:
The premise:
A son returns home to find that his parents have become obsessed with downsizing their belongings. Everything is going in a box, and his dad wants to be next.
A little bit of the script:
INT. INSIDE THE HOUSE - DAY
Dad is on the couch, mouth open. Snoring. Next to him are Mom and Son. Mom is showing Son a family photo album.
MOM
That’s Ron. He’s dead. That’s Uncle Donnie. Dead. Yvonne, she’s about to die, she has a sleep apnea thing like 'you know who'... I don’t know who that is. That’s Gordon, your grandmother’s brother. You remember him, he’s the one that tried to get your father to invest in ostrich meat. He’s dead.
Son is quiet. Mom shuts the photo album. Dad doesn’t react.
MOM
Anyway, you can have all these.
The inspiration:
This script is influenced by my own life, ahhh art. Here is a little of my stand up on the same subject matter that the film deals with: a joke about my parents
The cast:
I've casted two phenomenal actors that have appeared on Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, FX, NBC, CBS, IFC, Comedy Central, and major motion pictures like The Big Short, and the GTA video game franchise.
Do these things really cost this much?
Yes, probably more, I'm calling in all the favors I can and even getting my location for free. All of the money raised here will be going to pay other people for their time and work. I will not be taking any money for myself from this fundraiser.
Why this? Why now?
I've been self-producing things my entire career and this film is going to be a big step towards future financial backing to help share my projects with the largest audience possible. I want to really put my best foot forward and give myself a real chance to break in as a filmmaker, writer, and actor. This is an investment in my future, and becoming a new dad and having putting out my first stand up special (HERE ), the time to do this has never been more important.
