ON THE ROCKS- Student film, Salford university

We are 9 students from Salford University in our second year of film production, looking to raise funding for our new project a short film called, On The Rocks.

Synopsis: James clocks in at the jazz bar. It's the same story every day- get picked on by his boss, clean, serve the customers, clean, and close. It's not a life he loves, but it pays the bills, and he enjoys admiring the images of the guitarists on the walls- he always dreamed of being one of them.

It's a quiet afternoon at the bar. He looks over at the customer he's always had a crush on but is always too scared to approach. He does nothing. The bell above the door jingles as a new customer walks in- 60-year-old Jim- his skin dirty and his baggy clothes old and ragged. He asks James for the cheapest half-pint he’s got. The two strike up a conversation and get to know one another. He complains about his wife, saying he never really loved her, but she made him happy enough at the time. He complains about his job, saying he never really loved it, but it was good enough for him, even though he always had dreams of being on-stage. Now, he can't go home to her without having a drink first, and all he can afford is the cheapest half-pint in the bar. Their conversation reveals more and more similarities between the two, and makes James realise that this is the man he'll become should he continue down his path of complacency.

Jim finishes his drink and leaves. James ponders for a moment and looks back up at the pictures of his idols hanging on the walls. He grabs a napkin and writes something on it before slamming it down on the countertop, and immediately afterwards approaches the girl he admires and introduces himself. What does the napkin say? “Fuck you. I quit.”

Any funding received will be used for travel, location costs, costumes and props. We really appreciate any help that can be given.
